Turquoise Cottage is a name that sounds familiar to anyone associated with the Delhi music scene. When you think about rock band gigs, it is the first name that comes to mind. But, it came as a surprise, when they decided to open a franchise, called Cafe TC in Kamla Nagar.
Kamla Nagar is situated close to the North Campus of Delhi University and is mostly abuzz with students. The opening of Cafe TC, therefore, signaled a change in sight. North Delhi is kind of an antithesis of the happening life of South Delhi since its demeanor still remains conservative and t the North Delhites who want to explore the nightlife generally head to South Delhi.
So, the opening of a Cafe TC in North Delhi is something of a welcome change. The hope is that food and beverage and nightlife brands can make an appearance and transform the way people socialize. We were invited to the launch of Cafe TC and explored the place to find out the brand’s vision with this venture and what they plan to offer. Celebrities such as Vindu Dara Singh and Shamsher Singh Mehendi were also in attendance.
Cafe TC is situated bang at the start of Kamla Nagar and occupies two floors along with a terrace. It has bars on both floors. The kitchen is located on the lower floor while there is an open air setup upstairs with an accompanying bar. They also have a small second terrace that grants you privacy.
Apart from serving cuisines such as oriental, continental and Indian, they have a range of liquor to choose from including brands such as Grey Goose Vodka and hookahs with flavors such as Iranian Cigar and Green Apple.
The parking can accommodate 10-11 hatchbacks or 7-8 sedans.
Cafe TC also offers free Wi-Fi. So, if you are a working professional, you can have a meeting or work during the day.
The prices have been kept at the same as other TC properties, but with a little more stress on Indian cuisine, keeping in mind the taste of North Delhi. Head chef Shiv Negi is overseeing the kitchen at Cafe TC, Kamla Nagar. We tried the starters and a little bit of the main course and found it light and not too spicy.
The ambience seems pretty good since the upper floor houses an open environment while downstairs you can enjoy the music.
The upper floor also has two hammocks, which is an added touch that seems pretty cool. Despite this, you have your privacy, since there is a wall on the front that kind of protects you from the chaos of the street.
On the lower floor, there is a seating arrangement for 18-20 people and a resident DJ blasting out music. They have also kept a dance floor in between the bar and the serving area for those who want to tap their feet to the music.
The target audience for Cafe TC is working professionals who want a relaxing environment where they can sit back and chill.
Our first impressions of Cafe TC are that it carries off the laidback quality that can create an outlet for all those stuck in their busy schedule. Along with that, it also offers a range of stuff and basically aspires to become a one-stop shop for your dining and lounging needs. It grants you your privacy and also offers you a variety of stuff to choose from in terms of food and beverage. It is definitely a brave attempt at giving North Delhi some sort of nightlife.
*Cafe TC is located at 2/11, Roop Nagar, Main Kamla Nagar, Delhi -110007. It is open from 12pm-1am, seven days a week.
