Motorola recently Introduced the Moto X Play in the Indian market. For the third-gen Moto X, Motorola has pursued a change in strategy and basically gone with different phones placed in different price ranges, with varying specs. The Moto X Play is the first phone from the new Moto X range to be launched in India. The Moto X Play seems ideally targeted for India since it packs in Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 and comes at a price of Rs. 18,499 for the 16 GB model and Rs. 19,999 for the 32 GB model. This is a big change for the Moto X range since Motorola had launched the earlier generations of the Moto X in the Rs. 30K plus price range. This makes the new Moto X a little more interesting and enticing for the consumer.

Motorola has seen steady success with its well-priced phones this year, whether it is the Moto E or the Moto G. After seeing some good numbers with these phones, the Moto X Play seems an ideal bet and a phone specially designed for markets such as India, where people lust after good deals.
So, what’s the USP of the Moto X Play?
There are three features that basically set the new Moto X Play apart from other phones in this price range. These are – a 21-megapixel rear cam, a 3630 mAh battery and a durable water-resistant shell.
Moto X Play: First Thoughts
The Moto X Play feels premium in the hand, especially the new criss-cross pattern on the back, which makes it easy to hold and good to feel. The front would certainly remind you of the Moto G, with the dual front-facing speakers. Despite rocking a 5.5-inch display, the Moto X still doesn’t feel too big. The bezels have been kept to a minimum and the full HD display is sharp, clear and impressive.
The phone is surrounded by a metal strip on the sides, with the power button and volume rocker on the right and the left side being completely clean. At the top, there is the nano-SIM/MicroSD slot, while the bottom houses the MicroUSB slot and 3.5mm audio jack.
But the highlight of the device is the rubberized back, which looks premium, expecially in the black color. The device is available in white and black colors.
The back is removable and you get a lot of color options to choose from, along with some covers from Motorola. The back also houses the Indented Motorola Icon along below the 21-megapixel rear cam and dual-LED flash. Motorola also claims that the phone has been nano coated for water resistance.
As far as the 21-megapixel rear cam is concerned, it is definitely something. Even the 5-megapixel front cam performs fine. Yet, the near stock camera interface doesn’t do justice to the camera and Motorola could have made better use of it with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS).
There are other features such as Tap to Pay on board. The Moto X Play runs on Android 5.1.1 and will most probably receive Android M.
The battery should run pretty well. At 3630 mAh, it is one of the biggest phone batteries out there for a mid-range smartphone.
But, despite the price deduction and the name, one can’t truly expect fireworks while gaming, since the Moto X Play has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 instead of the much awaited Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 that the Moto X Style and Moto X Pure Edition come with.
All in all, the Moto X Play seems cool deal at Rs. 18,499 and comes with bundled offers from Flipkart, BookMyShow and MakeMyTrip which you can avail, if you purchase the device before 20th September, 2015.
