AIFW SS16 grand finale redefined opulence, as the most noted designers of the industry came forward to revive the traditions of Banaras through their creations. The show welcomed the guest with paan, earthen lamps and Shehnai notes. It began with the opening speech from the curator, Sunil Sethi and BJP spokesperson Shaina.
“The fashion design industry rocked because they really believe in the corporate social responsibility. What started with six designers in Mumbai went on to become 70 designer in Benaras and today we have over 100 designers from all walks of life, big and small, established and not so established, working in Benaras and paying tribute to master weavers,” said Shaina NC.
She also thanked some of the master weavers who were present at the finale.
Thereafter, the beautiful models walking the ramp in Banarasi weaves by 16 designers-Abhishek Gupta, Abraham and Thakore, Alpana Neeraj, Anupamaaby Anupama Dayal, Rishta by Arjun Saluja, Ashish n Soni, Atsu, Gauri n Nainika, JJ Valaya, Malini Ramani, Manish Arora, Namrata Joshipura, Rajesh Pratap Singh, Rohit Gandhi+ Rahul Khanna, Sabyasachi and Tarun Tahiliani. Their creations in bright colours interpreting the bridal wear for spring summer 16 is an ode to Benarasi Brocade.
The finale succeeded in taking the Indian fashion a notch higher by providing it a global appeal. This show is an extension to Honorable Prime Minister, Narender Modi’s ‘Make in India’ initiative to promote Indian weaves and craftsmanship.
