Reliance Jio, touted to be the country’s first full-scale 4G network, is being launched today in Mumbai. the company is launching its 4G service for its employees at an event in Navi Mumbai. The commercial, full-scale launch will happen in the next year and 2016-17 will the be the first year of operations.
Why the big hype around the launch?
Reliance holds the biggest chunk of spectrum among mobile operators for any technology related to mobile devices.
According to field trials by brokerage firm Credit Suisse, download speeds on the Reliance Jio peaked at 70 MBPS and stayed at an average of 15-30 MBPS.
Who accesses Reliance Jio 4G services right now?
Over 1 Lakh employees will be the first consumers of Reliance Jio.
The employee launch will be screened to 35000 people live with Shahrukh Khan and A.R. Rahman performing and to over 1000 locations including Reliance offices in Dallas, U.S.
Even the streaming happens across the Reliance Jio 4G network. It seems a smart move to rope in Shahrukh Khan as the brand ambassador – he earlier used to endorse rival Bharti Airtel.
Apart from this, there will be a soft launch in April.
