Asus Zenfone Zoom is the newest kid on the block among cameraphones. We were invited to the Asus event and caught the first glimpse of this device. With the Asus Zenfone Zoom, Asus has tried to re-create the benchmark that phones such as the Nokia Lumia 1020 and Pureview 808 set back in the day and haven’t had their shoes filled till now.

The Zoom Cam
The star of the show obviously is the 13-megapixel rear cam on the Asus Zenfone Zoom. Asus offers a 3X zoom camera. In simple terms, it means that your shots come out vivid and detailed.
It comes with features such as:
A 10-element HOYA lens: HOYA is an optical lens company that has created a double surface lens that offers less pixelation than usual. Being a 10-element lens, it is a combination of glass, synthetic and prism lenses to maximize incoming light and therefore, give you the clearest shots possible.
Built-in OIS: We tested out this feature at the launch and it did work well. Optical Image Stabilization is a must if you want stable shots on a smartphone.
Fast Autofocus: Asus claims a 0.3-second autofocus
Dual-LED Real Tone Flash: The Asus Zenfone Zoom provides you a real tone flash to provide you best indoor shots possible.
The Asus Zenfone Zoom is claimed to be the ‘world’s thinnest 3X Optical Zoom smartphone‘.
While the Asus Zenfone Zoom is 5mm at its thinnest point, the Optical Zoom camera does make it a little thick. The only phones we have for comparison in that respect are the Nokia Lumia 1020 and Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom – both have been phased out. While the Nokia Lumia 1020 was about the same thickness, the Zoom was much thicker.
Apart from that, it’s standout features include a physical video record button and a back with a leather feel.
The phone looks premium like it should. The white one held more of an appeal to us than the black one.
The Asus Zenfone Zoom comes with a 5.5-inch full HD display. It has good viewing angles and we did not experience any display lag in our short time with it.
It comes protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 4.
Under the Hood
A powerful camera needs some heavy lifting from the processor. The Asus Zenfone comes with a 4 GB DDR3 RAM under the hood along with a 2.5-GHz Intel Atom Z3590 processor.
It gets its juice from a 3000 mAh battery and offers 128 GB internal memory for hi-res photos. It runs on Android Lollipop 5.0.
Our Experience with the Asus Zenfone Zoom provided us with a short insight into what it can offer. The device actually works well and the camera works as advertised although the indoor shots could have been better. At Rs. 37,999 it is a device designed for photography enthusiasts. It is an ideal buy for people who are active on Instagram and Snapchat.
