Sony Xperia C4 Dual long term usage Review

Sony Xperia C4 Dual is still the only premium gadget next to Apple, despite the competition. We used the device for about two months and here is our full Sony Xperia C4 Dual Review.

Sony Xperia C4 specs:

  • 5.5-inch display
  • 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution
  • 1.7 GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6752 processor
  • Mali 760 MP2 GPU
  • 2 GB RAM
  • 16 GB internal memory
  • 13 MP primary camera
  • 5 MP front facing camera
  • Android v5.0 Lollipop
  • 2600 mAh battery

Sony has for long tried to cash on the camera phone trend. It has also stuck with the same UI for long. Yet, there is a definite gap between Sony and other leading brands in the industry. Sony has now started playing on 3 things mainly – screen size, camera and waterproofing capabilities.

Sony C4 Dual 29

The Sony Xperia C4 Dual offers a big phone at a subsidized price tag of around Rs. 20,100. It is definitely a big leap over the older C3 model. When you read the spec sheet it seems pretty standard. But a perspective consumer with a lot of choices would go for this phone only for two reasons – the camera and the large form factor.

So let’s delve into what this device offered in terms of long term usage.

Design and Build Quality

Sony has consistently maintained its premium build quality when it comes to smartphones. The Sony Xperia C4 Dual looks good to hold. It does seem a bit large for someone with petite hands, like this reviewer.

In the mid-range, this device definitely looks premium and suave. The rectangular form factor that Sony continues to have for its device now seems routine. Yet, the curved edges suit the Sony Xperia C4 Dual. The white colored device that we had for review was a dust magnet, but nothing that can’t be dealt with a cover.

The matt finish suits Sony’s phones more than the glossy or metallic one.

Sony C4 Dual 32

Despite its size, the Sony Xperia C4 Dual is a light device. The slots have been put on one side, while the other side has been kept clean.

On the whole, the Sony Xperia C4 Dual is a sleek device.

Despite possessing a large Full HD display, the Sony Xperia C4 Dual seems dimly lit. It seems like that a large screen device needs a better display.

Apart from that, the sunlight visibility of the device suffers outside.

Sony C4 Dual 36

It is a mid-range device with a full HD display and 401ppi pixel density.

It works well indoors but not in the sun.

Sony C4 Dual 7

The Sony Xperia C4 Dual runs Android 5.0 out of the box with additional updates available. The one thing that can irk a regular consumer is Sony’s Xperia UI, which comes with a lot of extra stuff than you would use on regular basis.

Sony C4 Dual 8

In terms of storage, the device does give you a considerable amount of leeway. Additional storage will come in handy.

The RAM though, runs out easily, which once again is an issue with Sony’s UI.

Sony C4 Dual 30

The 13-megapixel rear cam seems to be standard on devices. It also happens to be the USP of this device.

The device shots are clear both indoors and outdoors although some amount of disturbance does creep in.

Sony C4 Dual 21

The device does face problems from exposure.

Altogether, the shots do well and are generally clear.

Battery and performance

The battery life on the Sony Xperia C4 Ultra is a concern despite a 2600 mAh battery onboard. The battery drains pretty fast and the phone does not last a refular day of usage.

The Sony Xperia C4, for its price tag looks like a device that you can work around with the help of battery saver apps. It is a nice accessory to flaunt around and has a nice camera. The Achilles’ heel of this device, like that of many other Sony devices is the Xperia UI.
