Akshay Wadhwa, a Delhi based designer is all set to showcase his collection at Vancouver Fashion Week. Recently, we were invited to his showroom at Shahpur Jat to check out his collection.
The collection is based on the Indian women warriors and draws inspiration from Mughal, Rajput and Chola Empires.
The dominant colours in the collection are gold, black and blue. While they certainly reflect an bygone era yet, the collection is no less contemporary.
The collection has seventeen exclusive pieces. Fabrics like silk and satin have been layered to interest new age women. While we certainly found the designs bold but the embroidery makes adds the much needed delicacy.
Show Stopper’s Dress
The show ends with a very sublime peach and white coloured pearl embellished outfit. We were quite taken by a surprise when we saw the dress that was different from the rest of the collection. On inquiring more, we came to know that the dress not only marks the end of the Vancouver week collection but also leaves its audience with what to expect in the next collection. Akshay through this dress suggests that the next collection will be based on the theme futuristic.
Behind the Creation
Akshay meticulously heads a team of workers that are motivated to translate his creative expression into beautiful art pieces in his workshop.
